derek1Derek S. Johnson, Sr. – Licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer

Derek is a Benton native and graduated from Benton Consolidated High School in 1983. He received his B.S. in Business and M.B.A. from Eastern Illinois University.  In 1991 Derek graduated from the Southern Illinois University Mortuary Science and Funeral Service Program.  He has been the President of Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home, Inc. since 1992.  Derek has taught Small Business Management courses at Rend Lake College and was a full time Assistant Professor at the S.I.U. Mortuary Science and Funeral Service Program from 1998 to 2000.  He is a Member and Past-President of the Benton Rotary Club, Chairman of the Franklin Hospital District Board, Member and Past-Chairman of the Benton-West City Economic Development Corporation, Member and Past-President of the Egyptian Funeral Directors Association and Past-President of the Illinois Funeral Directors Association.  He and his wife Selinda are members of the First United Methodist Church in Benton.  They have five children, Scott, Cassie, Kaitlyn, Charlie, and Daniel.

Selinda K. Johnson – Funeral Director and Embalmer Apprentice

Originally from Akin, IL, Selinda is a 1994 graduate of Benton High School and has a Bachelor Degree in Special Education and a Bachelor Degree in Mortuary Science and Funeral Service from SIUC.  She and Derek were married in April 2006 and welcomed their youngest child, Daniel Kieffer Johnson, to their family on November 5, 2009.

Richard W. Bullock - Funeral Home Assistant

Richard “Rick” Bullock, grew up in Mulkeytown, Illinois and graduated from Christopher High School in 1988. He married the former Maria Payne (a native of Henderson, KY) in 1995 and they reside in Zeigler, Illinois. Rick joined the staff at Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home in October 2008. His hobbies include deer hunting, riding four-wheelers, and spending time with his children, John and Brittni, and grandchildren, Katlynn, Zoie, and Kaylee.
